Week 6... sigh

So today was supposed to be day 1 of Week 6.  Alas, I did something to my back and it is in spasm.  So light exercise and rest.  Today was also Grace's first day of swim lessons.  We have been staying up rather late and actually had to set an alarm today to wake up by 9.  I know, oh poor us.  heh.  Anyway, I'm going to do light exercise tonight and tomorrow night and then try to get up and run before swim lessons on Wednesday and then try another evening run on Friday.
So we'll see how it goes.

Week 5: Day 5

So I didn't get up early enough to run this morning.  My parents deliver meals on wheels.  So, in order to run, I have to get up before them and be able to be back before they leave.  However, mom needed my car to take herself to the doctor, so I just blew it off.  HOWEVER, I felt guilty so I ran this evening.  We went to the lake.  Mom came along and was going to hang out with the kiddos.  Elijah decided that he wanted to run with me.  The loop at the lake is .55 miles.  Once I start my walking warm up, I don't really slow down.  So Elijah jogged with me while I walked and then ran when I jogged.  I thought he would make it ONE lap.  He made it FOUR!!  I did five.  I was super impressed.   So I did 2.75 miles.  Running on relatively flat land is a hell of a lot easier than on hills.  We went out for ice cream afterwards and then stopped to catch fireflies on the way home.  Elijah and I walked from the firefly field back to the house.  Pretty good evening out.  I think I'll start doing this on Fridays until we leave.

Week 5: Day 4

i'll work out again tonight and finish up the long week 5 round tomorrow.

Week 5: Day 3

I rocked it out today.  Seriously!  I did all the 5 minute runs and only stopped once, at the top of mount tryingtokillme!  I was so proud that I got up that thing.  It has been SUPER stormy here and I almost didn't go because I thought the sky would open up.  It rained for about a minute.  The wind tried to push me down.  Didn't work!  Tons of trees down, just got some extra off roading time.  I really want to get a picture of THE hill.  Maybe I'll run with my camera tomorrow.  We'll see.
That's really all.  Yay!

Week 5: Day 2

Made it through all 5 minute runs without stopping!  Well, that's not true.  I made it up the first hill and I was so proud.  I looked around... no one to celebrate with, so I did a little dance... though to the untrained eye it may have looked like someone about to keel over, but it was a dance.  I did stop my timer for my little hyperventilation dance and then restarted it.  I made it 3/4 of the way up what I call HUGE hill (or my Everest) looked at my watch to see how much time I had left and realized I forgot to start the timer. Started the timer, walked the rest of the hill and then ran the time out.  So I actually did MORE than 5 minutes there.  I WILL make it up that hill before I go.
I did the Turbulence Training "B" workout last night.  The split squats with front foot elevated into the kneeling close hand push up combo hurt a little, but it was still good.  My 30 second rests in between each Super Set was my quick chat with Jerry time.  heh.
I have't weighed myself in a bit... so here goes...down to 146!!!!
That feels good!

Week 5 : Day 1

I will be doing Week 5 for the next week and a half.  I didn't run Monday due to this.  And since I only an once last week, I was expecting to die a little.  BUT we are in the mountains.  And MAN it's nice here.  I can wait until I actually wake up to run and not swelter to death in the heat.  I ran at 9 this morning and the temp was a cool 65 with low humidity.  Ahhhh.  The scenery is so pretty.  I ran at Black Mountain rec park.  Started out on a trail that went by the river, and then proceeded on a new path up by the community gardens, then ran to the end of the Oak's Trail.  Two major hills.... which I had to walk halfway up.  The schedule is 5 minute warm up walk, 5 minute run, 2.5 minute walk (I did 3), 5 minute run, 2.5 minute walk (again 3), 5 minute run.  I added on a cool down to get to the car, but really on 2-3 minutes.  All that ended in a little over 2 miles.  Not to bad.  I ended up walking 30 seconds in each 5 minute run, but still.
Last week, I really did work out a lot.  I biked almost everywhere and at least 5 miles a day... pulling at least Grace in a trailer.  I also swam a lot.  And the last day we were there, I tread water while catching Elijah in the deep end and giving him a push to swim to the wall for about 45 minutes.  So I feel like I gave my shins and knees a little rest, while still getting the exercise I needed.
Also, I started (re-started?) The Turbulence Training Workout.  It's an easy 20 minutes... well, it feels easy because you can do it watching TV and it feels like you aren't doing much.... until you wake up the next morning and try to run up hill!  heh.  My legs are sore.  I don't know why we stopped doing this last year.  By the 8th week, I was rocking out pull ups.  I think we had planned on moving onto P90X, but then the sickies hit and it just never happened.  But I'm okay with that.  I need something I can continue doing.  This program allows you to do just that.  AND it's made to partner with something like the C25K.  So, great!  I will just finish the beginner session in time to go home, which works out well since I need the pull up bar to continue to the next level.
There are a few other places to run around here that are a little more level, but I like the challenge of the hills and feel like if I can get to a point where I can do the whole 2+ miles without stopping, I'll be in a good place for going back to the pit oven that is Wilmington.
This was way more that I intended to write.  heh.
Song that motivated me to push through at the end: Beautiful Day by U2.

Week 4: Day 2A

Yeah.  I didn't get up and run.  The day before Jerry and I sat through the most.boring.presentation.ever.  (sigh) And they fed us.  And I got the worst heartburn for the rest of the day.  So I slept in until 9:15...with my husband...and my kids!!!  BUT I did ride 2 miles on a "beach" bike (I can't stand these bikes... at. ALL!) pulling both kids (over 75 pounds of kids plus the weight of the trailer.)  Also, this morning my mom and I tandem kayaked with the kids in the kayak.... so I get points right?  I will get up and run tomorrow before hitting the road with Jerry for a day trip to Charleston!  So, I think I'm okay.

Week 4 : Day 1A

heh.  So it is even more humid down here at Edisto Island, but the scenery is infinitely better.  Jog/Walked to the beach and back.  Didn't turn around at the halfway point cause I really wanted to see the waves  (took a lot to not dive into them fully clothed!)  So ended up doing a 7 minute cool down to get back which put my total miles at right under 3 miles...not too bad.  Again, the music got me through the last 5 minute stint.  (Alien Ant Farm's remake of Smooth Criminal!) Also rocked a sweat band this morning.  Totally goofy, but no sweat blinding me.  I was soaked head to toe when I got back to the condo, but it was well worth it.  No one was out until after 6:30 (I started at 5:55) so it was really nice.  Tons of birds out.  Ran with sun rising.  Really peaceful.
Thinking that I may do a bike ride tomorrow morning and then do a little resistance training in the evening.  Just as a little boost to the body!  We'll see!

Week 4:Day 2

eh.  My right shin is rebelling against me!  It's not a shin splint, but it does hurt...only when I run.  Alas.  I stretch, but that's a hard tendon/muscle to stretch.  I did increase my distance today 2.132.  BUT I walked the last minute. sigh.  I just couldn't push anymore.  I REALLY need to remember to take my night meds earlier the night before a run.  The Zyrtec knocks me out and then waking up at 5:15 to beat the heat, I'm soooo groggy.
I did find that Mack the Knife is the perfect pace for me.  I don't think that I can listen to it over and over for my run everyday, but nice to know that there is a song out there.  heh.
Here's hoping that Friday goes even better!
